Member Helene Finidori reports that two issues with these widgets. I have tested and confirmed.

  1. The two widgets display topic links for private groups. So even if the group and its forum are private, the forum topics links are displayed in the sidebar to non-group members. Same with the replies. When non-logged in users clicks on the links, they are asked to sign in. But the topic titles and who has replied to them should not be visible if the group is private, and user is not a member of the group or not logged in.
  2. The formatting of the links in the sidebar has changed from a picture to a bullet and looks odd.

Thanks Scott. I would add (just in case) that this happens with hidden groups as well.

This is a bbPress bug.

A workaround is to recalculate the hidden and private forums in bbPress.

You can do this by:

  1. Logging in to the WP admin dashboard
  2. Navigate to "Tools > Forums"
  3. Make sure to check "Recalculate private and hidden forums"
  4. Lastly, hit "Repair Forums"

This will regenerate bbPress' internal private and hidden forum IDs that are used to filter posts and will therefore fix forum visibility problems in the widgets.

I'll open a new bug ticket on bbPress Trac.

@HeleneFi Let me know if this works for you.

Thanks @r-a-y. It worked. It seems there's a bug on the style of the Recent Topics widget. The font size of the topics list is the same as the title... I could fix this by entering an html version of the widget but I don't know how to code it in html... and I'm not sure where to look to find the widget styles... could you point me there, or give me the code so I can recreate the widget?
